THE GIFT THAT IS REIKI
There seems to be a huge shift in the last few years, in terms of the way people are going about looking after their health. The amazing power of food and good nutrition, meditation, exercise and different forms of alternative healing cannot be denied.
People are starting to realise that they can no longer rely solely on the symptomatic treatment and “band aid” effect of toxic drugs to help them heal. After years of resorting to endless pill popping, with little ease in their symptoms, many are finally opening their eyes to modalities which they may have once thought of as a bit too “out there” for them. Enter Reiki healing.
You may have heard people refer to Reiki before in the past and wondered what on earth it was, or you may be quite familiar with it yourself. Either way, it’s fantastic that it’s healing head is popping up all over the place and it is finally getting the credibility it deserves! As a Reiki master, I have always been very open minded, into metaphysics and the mind body connection, so when I first learnt about Reiki, it just all made sense to me.
It wasn’t until after I had my first session, I was hooked, and really understood its entirety and wanted to be able to help heal people with this amazing tool. For those of you who are skeptical or sitting on the fence with what they have read or heard, remember – people will always critisize what they don’t understand. Knowledge and experience is power and I think Reiki is something you need to feel and experience before making your decision.
Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique that balances out the energy in your body physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally. In my previous posts on The need for healing, I mentioned the physical effects that emotions have on your body and health.
Physical pain can be caused by holding onto emotions/emotional events because we store these in our body. This means that often when people come for a session, they are quite shocked when they can have physical relief by releasing emotions (my father found this with his arthritis relief after one session) Reiki energy does not discriminate and whatever your body needs to heal at that point in time, is where it will be directed.
A Reiki session will last normally between 60-90 minutes. During this time, the client will lay fully clothed on a treatment table and the Reiki practitioner will place their hands on or just above certain places on the body correlating to different chakras or energy centers. The Reiki practitioner is able to scan the body and find areas/chakras that need unblocking, activating, healing, calming etc. The treatment is very relaxing and most of my clients either drift in and out of sleep or go into a very deep relaxed state.
Reiki experiences vary from person to person however, most clients normally relay sensations such as heat coming from my hands, tingling, coolness, twitching, stomach gurgling, and as if their body is naturally moving to realign/readjust itself. Others may notice that the pain you have experienced for quite some time has now gone or decreased dramatically.
Occasionally after a session you may feel a little tired or emotional for a few days as you are processing the session. However, this will pass, and you will feel better. These are all natural reactions and is just energy being released – so it’s a good thing! Being body aware on how you physically and emotionally feel before and after your session can also help you realise the impact of Reiki healing.
So if its stress relief, better sleep, more energy and vitality or just some good old relaxation you are after, you will not be disappointed.
